About van2free

A road trip in Australia. A van, open roads, and after that, it's hard to go back to a normal life.

Van on Australian road

Western Australia, 2023 — 6 weeks in a van, 8,000 km and a life-changing perspective.

How it all started

Two months in a van in Australia. That's where it all started.

I'd rented an old Hiace in Perth with the idea of driving down to Margaret River, "to see how it goes". Six weeks later, I'd crossed the desert, slept on empty beaches, cooked on a camp stove watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean. I had no desire to go home.

After Australia, there was Hawaii — the winding roads of Maui, the black beaches of Big Island. Then Canada, the Rockies in autumn, the impossible colors of Alberta's forests. Each trip, the same revelation: the van is the best way to see a country. Slowly. Freely. At your own pace.

Why van2free?

On every trip, I spent hours compiling information scattered across ten different sites: camping spots here, itineraries there, van rental comparisons somewhere else. Never everything in one place. Never with the right level of detail.

van2free is the resource I wish I'd had. One place to find inspiration, plan your route, compare vans, and leave with confidence — whether for a week in Brittany or three months in South America.

Destinations and itineraries are based on places I've actually explored, or on serious research from people who've been there. No mass-generated content. No vague "10 things to do" lists. Real advice, for real trips.

About affiliate links

van2free is free and will always be. To cover hosting costs, some links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend gear I'd actually use. That's the deal.
